![]() ![]() X4 at least gave us two ride armor types. ![]() Ride armor has been reduced to only the probe armor recycled from X4. Considering you can start with the full armor from X4, you may never use either. The Gaea armor gives you immunity to spikes, but can't use special weapons, and its buster is disappointing, making it highly situational. The Falcon armor offers invincible flight, yes, but the game's area is so confined that flight isn't really all that useful. In that case, what was the point of switching characters? You're better off neglecting one entirely to focus on the other, and making multiple playthroughs. On top of that life ups only apply to the character you're using, so why you can change characters, doing so will leave both underpowered. The boss leveling system prevents you from getting all of the life ups or weapon energy ups, and over half of the parts. you likely won't complete even one armor before reaching the Sigma stages, and by the time you have them, you likely won't need them. The time limit system punishes you for going back to explore stages, and the fact that you can't use your armors piecemeal anymore means you see no gradual increase in strength. The game design utterly discourages this. Gameplay: Exploring, becoming stronger, and finding all the upgrades is a key part of the X series formula. X4 was not without its sins, but it also did the above points of presentation better. Everything meshed perfectly to create a visual feast in video game form. ![]() Criticize its voice acting all you like, the sprites moved with fluid animation. "It's only a PS1 game, cut it some slack." I remind you that Megaman 8 was already out. ![]() Frankly it would have been better to do cutscenes in the game engine than this bizarre choice of mostly silent stills.īut wait you say. Even X6 at least added small bits of animation, sound effects, and voice acting to give them a little impact. The choice to use the menu music for most of the Sigma stages is also very strange.Ĭutscenes went from cell animated FMV to static screens, often without music or sound. Boss music is subdued, not really emphasizing the feeling of combat. While always, the compositions are solid, the choice of what to use where is what I question. You feel like you're just fighting a big floaty piece of clip art. While X4, and all later bosses had voices, these are mostly silent lacking even sound effects to most of their attacks. Most of the bosses, while big have only 3-5 poses with no in between frames. Do you remember Flame Mammoth shaking the screen, and a loud thud when he jumped? The hiss of Chill Penguin's slide which seemed to have a very believable momentum as he slowed to a stop? None of that is here. They featured detailed animations, a feeling of weight in their movements, and complimenting sound design that emphasized everything they did. They don't mesh well with the character art, making me very aware I'm playing a game.īosses are the worst offenders in terms of presentation. Presentation: The use of pre rendered CGI backgrounds was really jarring. However, that's worth it to us because the Penzey's brand is well-established and reputable in the culinary world.Megaman X5 seems to be held up as a holy grail of the X series, but honestly I find it to be the second weakest entry in the series, sitting only above X7. Another downside is that you have to purchase Penzey's from a brick-and-mortar location or website. The double-strength vanilla is stable for a home cook who frequently makes vanilla cakes and chocolate chip cookies while the single-strength is a similar potency to other brands on our list. Penzey's is by no means inexpensive, but you get what you pay for with this product. You can purchases bottle sizes ranging from 2 ounces to 16 ounces of both products. The single-strength imparts a less potent aroma and taste than the double-strength an 8-ounce bottle retails for $56.95 ($7.19 per fluid ounce). An 8-ounce bottle retails on the website for $85.49 ($10.69 per fluid ounce). However, if you have to use half the amount for a recipe, you might consider the double-strength a more affordable option. Penzey's double-strength extract is twice as potent, so you will have to use half as much for the same vanilla flavor. ![]()
